Smoking: Pleasure or Life?

Review:

With Sin Tax Bill in review before passing into a law, Let us first review the bill too before the article.

The bill's measure is to discourage the people on smoking and drinking, and putting all the effort into developing the health program in the country, thus creating a sound and healthy community throughout the Philippines. The bill also states that there are already measures to save the workers, from tobacco farmers and industrial employees. The said bill also states that the only ones to be affected by the tax are the people who uses these vices.

There are necessary preparations that the government had taken considered like:

RA 7171 (An Act to Promote the Development of the Farmers in the Virginia Tobacco-producing Provinces) states that 15% of collections form excise taxes on tobacco products will go to provinces where Virginia tobacco is produced.

RA 8240 (An Act Amending Sections 138, 140 & 142 of the National Internal Revenue Code) provides that 15% of the additional revenue collected from the excise tax on tobacco products be allocated and divided among the burly and native tobacco-producing provinces.

You Choose!

As we all know, or for the ones who don't know,  nicotine is the addictive drug in tobacco smoke that causes smokers to continue to smoke. Addicted smokers need enough nicotine over a day to feel normal or stay normal to satisfy cravings or control their mood. As long as they can receive nicotine, they are likely to just inhale every kind of cigarette to feel normal.
Smokers also inhale about 7,000 other chemicals in cigarette smoke along with nicotine. Many of these chemicals come from burning tobacco leaf. Some of these compounds are chemically active and trigger profound and damaging changes in the body. Much like inhaling a car smoke blowing on it's tube, only much worse in a matter of number of sticks.

There are over 60 known cancer-causing chemicals in tobacco smoke. Smoking harms nearly every organ in the body, causing many diseases and reducing health in general.

One day, while walking in the streets, I happen to see a set of family in the corner. The father smoke alongside the mother while carrying her baby, children on the side playing but is cough a lot. I feel sorry for the children because, they are already getting sick in such a young age from the second-hand smoke coming from their very own parents. I also fear that with those children, seeing their parents smoke, will more likely to smoke too and what I saw will happen again on the near future.

With the growing population around the globe, there are more people being affected by direct smoking and second-hand smoke which leads to different kinds of diseases ultimately, statistics will show that the number deaths related to smoking will increase.

It is true that direct smoking will have an adverse effect in the health of the person smoking, but second-hand is twice more deadly than directly inhaling the smoke from the cigarette stick. Secondhand smoke can cause immediate damage as well as contribute to the development of numerous diseases, including cancer and heart disease. So what will be the health of the children and the baby?

Scientific research also says that children are particularly the most vulnerable to the effects of secondhand smoke because they are still developing physically, have higher breathing rates than adults, and have little control over their indoor environments. Children exposed to high doses of secondhand smoke, such as those whose mothers smoke, run the greatest relative risk of experiencing damaging health effects.

My Thought About the Notes:

I prefer giving life not only for the future generations but also to the living human being in the present. There are still a lot of people who don't just smoke and wants a healthy living. Like what I always hear on a dramatic television show, "If you want to die that badly, don't include innocent people." With the movement of the Sin Tax bill in the present government, I am looking that in the future, where young ones will not have the problem in their health due to second hand smoke.

What about you? What's your choice?
